It has been a very active couple of weeks for the fresh staff of the New London-Waterford Speedbowl under new GM Shawn Monahan, who are scrambling to put together a strong schedule for the 2015 racing season, which is set to include a number of touring divisions, both old and new. The newest will bring fast full body racecars back to the Connecticut shore.
At Race-a-Rama this past Saturday, Monahan indicated that discussions were still ongoing with different touring series, including the Granite State Pro Stock Series. Series organizer and driver Mike Parks later confirmed to CT Speedworld on Tuesday that the track and the series are looking at a date in the Fall, with a race distance of 100 or 125 laps. A full press release is expected around the end of week.
The Granite State Pro Stocks, as the name suggests, is a New Hampshire based series for Pro Stock/Super Late Model competition, the Speedbowl would be only the second out of state track in series history, the other being Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park in northeastern Connecticut, which is set to host the 40 lap season opener on April 12, as a part of the Icebreaker weekend.
The series currently has 10 races scheduled for 2015, with Thompson and seven tracks in New Hampshire set to play host.
The Speedbowl hopes to have its full schedule out in time for this Saturday’s 2014 Banquet celebration. The track has confirmed events with with multiple touring series including the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Valenti Modified Racing Series, ISMA Supermodifieds, Tri-Track Open Modifieds, Northeast Mini Stock Tour, and NEMA Midgets. The Mr. Rooter New England Truck Series and Northeast Street Stock Tour are expected to have dates announced as well.
